Tinubu Urges Pardoned Kano And Kaduna Protestors To Avoid Unrest, Become Responsible Citizens

President Bola Tinubu addressed pardoned Kano and Kaduna state protestors on Tuesday, urging them to become responsible citizens of the country.

These 119 suspects were taken under custody during the Aug. 1 protest. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who passed on the president's message in a statement, advised these pardoned protestors to desist from acts that will lead to violence and destruction of public and private property.

Out of 119, seven pardoned suspects had previously been granted bail and three were released to their parents. During the handover of 112 suspects -- 73 from Kano and 39 from Kaduna -- to their state governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the vice president spoke to them in both English and Hausa.

Tinubu had decided to release the suspects on humanitarian grounds, offering them a second chance to become responsible citizens.

During the ceremony, Shettima noted there was strong evidence against the suspects, including their involvement in the destruction of public and private property worth billions of naira.

He urged the governors of Kaduna and Kano to help rehabilitate the suspects so they can be reintegrated into their communities and society.

The vice president described Tinubu as a compassionate leader, who cared for all Nigerians and is working hard to improve the country's economy.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau encouraged the pardoned suspects to use the opportunity to become better citizens, thanking Tinubu for forgiving them and allowing them to return to their families.

All the pardoned suspects had been medically checked and confirmed to be fit for release to their parents or guardians, as per Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Nentawe Yilwatda.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani urged the released suspects to think about their actions and take the opportunity given to them by President Tinubu to become better and responsible citizens.

He emphasized that they must avoid doing anything that could break the law in the future. He also promised that his government would work with others to help the freed suspects continue their education or get involved in activities that would improve their lives.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Kano State Abba Yusuf said that the release of the suspects showed Tinubu's care and concern for the people.
