President Tinubu Commends Nigerians In Diaspora For Enhancing Nation’s Image

Positive reports about Nigerians in the diaspora would inspire the younger generation to embrace values that improve the country's image, as per President Bola Tinubu's statement.

The statement came on Thursday as the Canadian High Commissioner told the president that Nigerians are making contributions in areas like education, sports, science, health, and business in Canada.

The president praised Nigerians living abroad while receiving Letters of Credence from Pasquale Salvaggio, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria and Dr. Julius F. Sandy, the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, according to the State House website.

Tinubu also received Letters of Credence from Legesse Geremew Haile, the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Nigeria, and Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican to Nigeria.

The Canadian High Commissioner praised Nigerians in Canada, saying they show responsibility, civility, and purpose when working toward their goals. He highlighted that Nigeria is an important partner for Canada, being the largest country in Africa with one of the biggest economies.

He also mentioned that Nigeria is Canada's largest trading partner in Africa. He expressed a desire to strengthen the positive relationship between both countries, noting that the Nigerian diaspora in Canada is active in government, business, science, and sports.

The Canadian High Commissioner emphasized their goal of further developing these ties. Salvaggio, who has worked in Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, said that Canada aims to expand its involvement in oil and gas, ICT, and agriculture as part of its partnership with Nigeria.

In a meeting with the new Ethiopian Ambassador, Tinubu talked about the strong relationship between Nigeria and Ethiopia. He emphasized the need for continued peace efforts across Africa, stating that insecurity harms development and that Africans must work together for peace.

The Ethiopian Ambassador expressed his aim to build on the successes of his predecessors, focusing on strengthening cultural ties, which are already supported by Ethiopian Airlines.

After receiving the Letter of Credence from the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican, the president praised the Catholic Church for its work in education and efforts to reduce poverty. He highlighted the importance of education in fighting ignorance and poverty. The president also expressed his eagerness to welcome the Vatican leadership to Nigeria.
