President Tinubu Signs Bill To Boost Nigerian Judicial Officers’ Salaries By 300%

President Bola Tinubu signed a bill into law that will increase the salaries and allowances of judges in Nigeria by 300%.

The new law, passed by the Senate in June, means that the Chief Justice of Nigeria will now earn N64 million a year. Basheer Lado, the President's Special Adviser on Senate Matters, said on Tuesday that by signing this bill, Tinubu showed his strong commitment to improving the welfare of Nigeria's workforce.

"This extraordinary move underscores Mr. President's absolute prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else just like he did when he recently put on hold an ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting to assent to the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000," he said, Premium Times reported.

He added, "This landmark decision reflects Mr. President's profound dedication to ensuring that every salary earner in Nigeria, especially those serving in vital and strategic roles, receives the recognition and compensation they deserve."

By focusing on improving the financial well-being of judicial officers, Tinubu has not only strengthened the justice system but also set a new standard for leadership that values the hard work and sacrifices of Nigerian workers.

Under Tinubu's administration, worker welfare has become a key part of national progress. His policies are aimed at improving the lives of millions, ensuring that labor is respected and that those who serve the nation are fairly rewarded, as per Lado.

This new law highlights the president's ongoing efforts to build a more prosperous and fairer Nigeria, where every worker can contribute to the country's success.

Lado also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for their dedication to enhancing the welfare of Nigerians.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the President of the National Industrial Court and other top judges - including those in the FCT Shariah and Customary Courts - will all receive the same salaries and allowances.

Their annual basic salary will be N7.9 million, with an additional N42.3 million in regular allowances. They will also receive a severance gratuity of N23.9 million and a motor vehicle loan of N31.9 million.

Last month, Tinubu also signed a bill that increased the minimum wage for Nigerian workers from N30,000 to N70,000.
