President Tinubu Limits Official Convoys To 3 Vehicles In New Cost-Cutting Initiative

President Bola Tinubu has announced a new cost-cutting measure, limiting ministers and heads of federal agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

This announcement came just one day after he reorganized his cabinet. The directive, shared in a statement by the president on the official X handle, also stated that no extra vehicles would be given to public officials for travel.

In the same directive, Tinubu ordered that each minister and agency head can have a maximum of five security aides, including four police officers and one Department of State Services officer. The statement mentioned no additional security personnel will be assigned.

The president instructed the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to work with the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to find a suitable way to reduce the number of vehicles and security personnel for his appointees.

All officials affected by the new orders are expected to follow them immediately. In January, Tinubu took important steps to cut government spending by reducing his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials. For local trips, he cut it to 25 officials. He also reduced the vice president's entourage to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local visits.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) praised Tinubu's reshuffle of his cabinet, which included the appointment of Bianca Ojukwu, the wife of the party's former national leader, as a minister.

APGA called the president's decision bold and daring, believing it could help lift the country out of its current economic troubles. Ojukwu was one of the seven new ministers announced by Tinubu on Wednesday.

National Chairman of APGA Sylvester Ezeokenwa said that the appointment was a positive development. He believes it shows that the president is willing to look beyond party lines to address the many challenges facing the country.

"It's a very welcome development. I wouldn't have been more proud as the chairman of the party. Bianca Ojukwu is one of our most revered members – very iconic, very striking," Ezeokenwa said, ThisDayLive reported.

"A woman with many sterling qualities and the wife of our foremost national leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, who both in life and death we have him as our national leader."
