President Tinubu Expresses Sympathy To Military After Loss Of 6 Soldiers In Borno Attack

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday expressed deep sympathy to the military after six soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack on Jan. 4, 2025, at an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.

The president sent his condolences to the families of the soldiers, emphasizing that their sacrifice in defending the country will always be remembered, as per the statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu also called for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the attack and ensure lessons are learned to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He praised the armed forces for their quick and effective response, especially the air force, which carried out successful air strikes. These raids led to the killing of many terrorists and the destruction of their equipment as they tried to escape.

"This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation's security. Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians," he said.

He added, "I extend heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces on behalf of a grateful nation. Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats."

The president urged the military to actively target the camps of bandits and terrorists, especially in the Northwest, where they continue to endanger the lives of innocent villagers. He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military's efforts in bringing peace and security back to the country.

Last week, Gunmen killed the Katsina State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Surajo Leader, along with two others in Kusada Local Government Area.

Last year in January, President Bola Tinubu condemned the surge in bandit attacks and kidnappings across Nigeria, calling these acts disturbing, ungodly and sinister, and emphasized that education is the remedy to the country's ongoing challenges.

He also said the government will roll out policies and plans to educate Nigerian youths and noted that education will work as an antidote to deal with the surge in banditry and kidnappings in Nigeria.
