President Bola Tinubu Commences Digital Disbursement Of Student Loans

President Bola Tinubu launched the digital disbursement of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) at the State House, emphasizing that it will ensure fairness and equity in making higher education financially accessible to Nigerian students.

Tinubu highlighted that providing loans to students will encourage more people to pursue higher education, contributing significantly to national development.

"My belief is that education is the greatest weapon against poverty. Without education, there is no vision; without education, there will be no development; without education, you cannot successfully conquer poverty, insecurity, and abuse in society," Tinubu said, as per the State House's official website.

He added, "Education is that light at the end of the tunnel, and no matter how sluggish it moves, it will give you light and the hope you need. We are investing in it. We do not want to try ignorance as an alternative. We want education from the foundation to the topmost level."

The president expressed satisfaction with the progress made by NELFUND and the commitment shown by its leadership in accepting and fulfilling the responsibility.

He praised the Chairman of the Fund Jim Ovia and the Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr for their dedicated efforts in advancing the agency's mission. Tinubu affirmed his dedication to ensuring the success of NELFUND and that less privileged Nigerian students have access to higher education.

The president emphasized that democracy thrives on inclusiveness and expressed his commitment to building a society where everyone has opportunities. Tinubu noted that education is crucial for seizing opportunities and fulfilling promises made during his campaign.

"The tool is available, and the hope is here; genuine, and the commitment to inclusiveness is what democracy is all about. I am fulfilling one of my greatest promises of the campaign. We are building an inclusive society," he said.

Tinubu noted that to fight against terrorism and banditry, inclusiveness and education are important.

The Chairman of NELFUND also spoke during the event and thanked the president for the opportunity. He praised Tinubu for recognizing the problem regarding education and signing NELFUND into law earlier this year.

Previously, Tinubu highlighted the importance of education in getting rid of poverty. Earlier this year, the president also revealed his plans to create millions of job opportunities by unlocking trillions in public wealth to optimize and double Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
