Tinubu Congratulates Monday Okpebholo On Edo State Governorship, Urges Focus on Development

President Bola Tinubu congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his swearing in as the governor of Edo State, and asked him to work hard to improve the living conditions of the people in the state and create a meaningful impact during his office term.

After winning the governorship election on Sept. 21, Okpebholo officially took over from former Governor Godwin Obaseki. Tinubu said after eight years under Obaseki's leadership, Edo State was now returning to the All Progressives Congress.

The president advised Okpebholo to strengthen the legislature and other important government institutions during his term. He emphasized that having a strong and independent legislature was key to achieving effective democratic governance, as per the official statement shared on X.

At the inauguration ceremony, the president announced a new era in Edo State, which was marked by the success of democratic values. Tinubu assured the public that Nigeria's toughest economic challenges were now behind them.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing Tinubu, spoke about the importance of democracy and the people's influence on Nigeria's political path, calling it "democracy in its truest form."

He described the atmosphere as filled with joy and hope, saying it reflected the people's desire for a better future. He expressed confidence in Nigeria's economic future, noting that the country had overcome its most difficult times and was now moving toward growth.

The president asked for quick reconciliation to resolve any disagreements that might arise after the election, reminding everyone that every elected leader had a responsibility to all citizens, even those who voted differently or ran against them.

Tinubu also highlighted Nigeria's progress in democracy, stating that after more than 25 years of returning to democratic rule, the inauguration showed that every vote was equal in value.

He shared his thoughts on leadership, saying that while an honest leader quickly saw the problems they inherit, what defined them was their honesty and courage to face these challenges head-on.

The president mentioned that the new administration's goals go beyond party politics. He affirmed that Okpebholo was dedicated to building the Edo State that people want -- a place with good job opportunities, strong education, modern infrastructure and accessible healthcare for all citizens.
