Terrorists Kill 28, Raze Houses, In Southern Kaduna Attack
Terrorists killed over 28 citizens and razed their houses in Southern Kaduna communities of Nigeria Sunday.
The communities affected by the attack are Malagum 1 and Sokwong, both of which are located in Kagoro within the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Kaura Local Government Council Chairman Mathias Siman confirmed that seven people were killed in Sokwong Community, Punch reported.
He added that all the houses in Sokwong had been set on fire by the terrorists and they are still trying to confirm the number of casualties in Malagum 1.
Furthermore, the Speaker of the Kaura Local Government Council, Atuk Stephen, said that more than 22 people were killed in the Malagum 1 community.
This is yet another tragedy befalling Southern Kaduna people at the hands of killers who have yet to be apprehended or brought to justice. Just five days before, an attack was launched in Malagum 1, leaving three people dead.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter is mourning the death of over 28 innocent people of the Malagum 1 community in the Kagoro area who were brutally slaughtered Sunday night.
Rev. John Joseph Hayab, CAN chairman in Kaduna State said "this massacre has further proven that the killers of the Southern Kaduna people have not yet been neutralized as claimed."
"The federal government and the security agencies must not let the killers escape. Those who committed this evil must be fished out, arrested, and brought to justice," he added.
The Kaduna State Government has also expressed its condolences to the Malagum 1 and Sokwong communities in Kaura LGA following reports of a bandit attack.
Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, said, "Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed deep sadness at the report of the incident and prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed while offering condolences to their families."
The Governor has also called for authorities to provide the affected communities with urgent relief material.
Regular armed banditry attacks against civilians and officials in northwest Nigeria continually cause security concerns. With the 2023 presidential elections around the corner, the violence threatens voter registration and creates fears of election-day intimidation.
