President Tinubu Vows To Make Nigeria Net Exporter Of Agricultural Products

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production and a net exporter of agricultural products.

Tinubu, who received a delegation from the Global Tijaniyya Movement at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, said Sunday that he plans to bolster agricultural productivity through various initiatives, including the expansion of farmlands, the provision of low-interest loans to farmers and significant investments in irrigation infrastructure.

He also emphasized the need for collaboration between political and spiritual leaders to help the country's interests and promote unity among Nigerians.

"Nigeria will become a net exporter of food. We are bringing thousands of tractors. Food production will be greatly expanded through aggressive mechanization. We must be productive as a people. That is the Sunnah and the principles I grew up understanding," he said, as per the official X (formerly Twitter).

Tinubu, who received the delegation led by Khalifa Muhammad Mahe Niass, said that his administration also plans to support and make changes in order to ease and succor the Hajj pilgrims.

He thanked the Global Tijaniyya Movement for its support and prayers. The president also spoke about equipping hospitals with modern equipment, providing healthcare professionals with training and ensuring social welfare for every citizen.

Sheikh Mahe Niass, the Khalifa of Tijaniyya, also spoke on behalf of his delegation and praised Tinubu for his commitment to bringing peace, progress, and stability to the country.

During the visit, the delegation also offered prayers to bring progress, unity, and prosperity to Nigeria, alongside praying for wisdom, strength, and success for Tinubu.

The visit came after Tinubu appointed new boards for the National Hajj Commission (NAHCOM) to ensure a hassle-free experience for Nigerians in the upcoming pilgrimage season.

Last month, the president approved 12 new members in NAHCOM to ensure hitch-free and seamless Hajj operations in 2024, including Jalal Arabi, who will serve as Chairman of NAHCOM. Aliu Abdulrazaq will be the commissioner of policy, personnel, and finance.

Alongside NAHCOM, Tinubu also appointed new boards of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC).

Colonel Aloche Adole serves as the chairman of the NCPC, while Stephen Adegbite has become the secretary. Bishop Raphael Benjamin Nwankwo, on the other hand, has taken the role of the representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
