President Tinubu Urges Nigerian Military, Security Agencies To Intensify Fight Against Insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday urged the military and security agencies to enhance their efforts to end insecurity in the country.

During the induction ceremony of two TK-129 ATAK Helicopters and a King Air 360i Aircraft at Nigeria Air (NAF) Base in Makurdi located in Benue State, the president urged the officials to change their fighting tactics and mindset.

The president noted that the acquisition of these aircraft amongst other military equipment despite budgetary constraints is an expression of his administration's commitment to security mission in the country.

"You may recall that in my inaugural address, I stated that security shall be the top priority of my administration because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence," he said, as per the statement shared on the official X handle (formerly known as Twitter).

Tinubu said the security agencies should step up their efforts at "conclusively ending the multi-dimensional security challenge facing our dear country."

Tinubu promised that he would deploy the entire machinery of state power to ensure the security of Nigerians and their properties. He also pledged to put criminal activities like terrorism, insurgency and kidnapping to an end.

"It has been about 6 months since my proclamations and so much has been achieved due to the gallant and synergistic efforts of our various security agencies. I am also pleased that coordination among our security agencies has greatly improved especially in recent months," he added.

The president noted that there will be no celebrations until the government "put an end to the security logjam" and brings troops back to their respective localities and frees up resources for Nigeria's critical economic expansion program.

Tinubu pointed out that his administration is committed to sustaining the country's investments in soft and physical infrastructure, social security, MSME empowerment and other growth enablers.

In the next few years, Nigeria is pursuing a $1 trillion economy that can be achieved with a sustainable production of two million barrels of crude oil per day.

Tinubu said these targets can only be achieved when the country provides a secure environment for investors and people to engage in meaningful productive ventures.

"We shall ensure that every sector of our nation benefits from the change that we promised. I therefore expect discipline in operation and a strong maintenance culture that will enable the nation to derive maximum benefits from these acquisitions," he concluded.
