President Bola Tinubu on Thursday advised the recent Edo State governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, to focus on developing his state, stressing that the federal government and the Progressive Governors' Forum will fully support him.

During a meeting in Abuja with the leaders of the All Progressives Congress party, the Edo governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect, Rep. Dennis Idahosa, received their certificates of return along with Tinubu's advice, following the recent elections.

"Governor-elect, you can now face the task of development. We are here to work with you. You have seen the progressive governors of APC. They are truly progressive. Work with them. Learn the ropes, and I believe you are up to the task," Tinubu said, as per the official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of the presidency.

"You have earned the victory. Democracy is difficult, particularly in emerging democracies and economies like ours. You have earned the victory. Democracy is difficult, particularly in emerging democracies and economies like ours."

The president congratulated Okpebholo and his deputy, calling them a "good symbol of people chosen by God to work together." He noted that they started as rivals but ended up as partners, showing good cooperation in politics.

He mentioned that the leader of their party has had similar experiences. In Kano, he started as a front-runner, then became a second-runner, and later a deputy before finally becoming a governor.

Tinubu recognized the contributions of former Edo State Governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the progressive governors and the APC leadership in the successful gubernatorial election.

The president noted that Oshiomhole was very happy during the event and praised the governors for their efforts in Edo, emphasizing that they worked hard to support the party and defended its interests.

He also thanked INEC and the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and well-organized election, with no reports of violence or disturbances.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to the security agencies, highlighting that there was no bloodshed or riots and people voted peacefully and returned home safely, easing any fears. The president encouraged the party leadership and members to stay united and focused on achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.
