President-elect Bola Tinubu Returns To Nigeria Ahead Of Inauguration

Nigeria's President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has finally returned to the country after spending one month in Europe ahead of the inauguration, which will be held on May 29.

Tinubu's aircraft landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4:30 p.m. in Abuja on Monday.

The 71-year-old former governor of Lagos State shared a series of photos via his official Twitter handle, featuring himself coming out of the plane and his supporters welcoming him at the airport.

"I am extremely excited to be back home and deeply humbled by the warm welcome I received on my return to Abuja today," he captioned the tweet. "Thank you all for your love and support. Our promise to deliver a nation of Renewed Hope for all Nigerians remains in motion."

A Twitter user shared a video of Tinubu's arm, noting that there is a PICC line connected, which makes it clear that he is unwell.

"Take a closer look at Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's arm, you'll see a PICC line there. This man is sick, he's supposed to be resting, and receiving treatments," the Twitter user wrote alongside the video. "May affliction not rise again in Nigeria."

The same Twitter user explained the PICC line in the follow-up tweet, "PICC line gives your doctor access to the large central veins near the heart. It's generally used to give medications or liquid nutrition."

A source confirmed last month that Tinubu is seeking medical care in Europe after falling ill.

"Tinubu has left for Europe for medical care. He fell ill after voting on Saturday during the Lagos guber election," the source had told SaharaReporters. "He was attended to by local doctors but he has left for Europe for proper medical care."

At that time, the source also shared that the president-elect wanted the doctors to come down to Nigeria but eventually, he had to visit them in Europe. During his visit, he also celebrated his birthday on March 29 and said via his Twitter handle that winning the election was his greatest gift.

This wasn't the first time when Tinubu traveled abroad for medical reasons. Last year in January, he was rushed to London for medical treatment.

His health became a concern for social media users when after returning from London. He was seen attending a public gathering, where his dress was visibly soaked from behind when he stood up from the sofa.

Tinubu opened up about his health ahead of the presidential elections, noting that he is mentally strong, if not physically.

"Some ignorant people have been standing before you. I am not running for 100 or 500 yards, I am running for the presidency," he said, Vanguard reported. "I am not competing in WWE wrestling. If I go out there, they will say I am sick. I am standing before you. Do I look like a sick man? Vote for me, they will stop complaining. I am smarter than they are."
