Nigeria’s First Lady Highlights Commitment To Quality Healthcare At National Hospital Abuja’s 25th Anniversary

In the wake of celebrating the 25th anniversary of National Hospital Abuja (NHA) on Wednesday, First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was dedicated to ensuring that every citizen had access to quality healthcare services.

To mark the anniversary, the radiotherapy center will be named the Mariam Abacha Radiotherapy Centre. During the celebration, Oluremi praised the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, Ali Pate, the hospital's chief medical director, Muhammad Raji, and all the staff for their efforts in improving the health and well-being of Nigerians.

"Every Nigerian deserves quality health care, regardless of their background or circumstances," she said, as per the official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle. "The federal government, under the able leadership of President Tinubu, is committed to rebuilding the healthcare system in Nigeria."

"Therefore, the NHA plays a vital role in ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality and affordable healthcare. As we look to the future, I urge members of staff and management of this great hospital to remain resilient and strive for excellence so that you can continue to positively impact the lives of many that seek qualitative medical care."

The first lady said that investing in the health of Nigerians was very important and urged stakeholders to reflect and contribute positively to this cause. She acknowledged that the establishment of the hospital was made possible by the vision of the former First Lady, Hajia Maryam Abacha.

Under her Family Support Programme, the idea of creating a national hospital for women and children was born. The hospital's role was later expanded in 1999 to become Nigeria's main referral hospital, and it was renamed the National Hospital, Abuja.

Earlier this week, Pate introduced new plans to address the increasing challenges of malaria and antimicrobial resistance in Nigeria, soon after the National Primary Health Care Development Agency announced the vaccine distribution will start in Kebbi and Bayelsa states on Dec. 2.

Last month, Oluremi launched the RHI Food Outreach in Ekiti State to distribute food items to vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, widows, and special schools.
