Nigerian Air Force Kills Over 100 Boko Haram Terrorists, 2 Kingpins In Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) killed over 100 Boko Haram terrorists, including two kingpins, in an airstrike in Borno.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF Headquarters, Edward Gabkwet.
"There is no doubt that the progress and gains being made, especially by the air and ground troops have greatly contained an upsurge of terrorist campaigns within the Northeast zone in recent times. Both air and ground troops have however been cautioned on the need to remain focused on the end state," the statement read.
The mission was conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) at Mantari village in Gezuwa general area, Bama Local Government Area of Borno.
The operation, which took place on Dec. 20, has been successful in reducing Boko Haram's ability to regroup and attack innocent citizens during the festive season and the upcoming general elections, added Gabkwet in a statement released on Dec. 25.
The Air Force has announced the names of the terrorist leaders killed in the recent air raid as Khaids Tukur and Bakura Jega, Punch reported.
Following the initial air strike, which successfully eliminated several terrorists and destroyed their structures, some of the surviving members of the terrorist group returned to the area in an attempt to evacuate the bodies of their fallen friends. This presented an opportunity for a second air strike on the same location, which was confirmed to be even more successful than the first, with over 100 terrorists neutralized and dozens more critically injured.
According to Gabkwet, the attack was prompted by an intelligence report that a Boko Haram terrorist commander known as Ikirima had arrived in Mantari village with gun trucks, accompanied by other terrorists on motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) have both applauded the security agencies under OPHK for their work in the fight against terrorism. They urged the troops to continue to give their best towards ensuring that the region was completely rid of all terrorists, This Day Live reported.
