The underwater gas pipeline project will allow Nigeria to supply Europe with 200 trillion standard cubic feet of gas. The pipeline will begin in Brass Island, Nigeria, and end in North Morocco, where it will eventually join the existing Maghreb European Pipeline (MEP).
The importance of the Nigeria-Morroco gas pipeline project
The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project could be a game changer for the continent, supplying much-needed gas to Europe while also providing an economic boost to Africa. With the current Russia-Ukraine war disrupting energy supplies to Europe, EU policymakers have been looking for alternative sources of energy, and natural gas is a prime candidate.
Africa has significant reserves of natural gas, and when the Nigeria-Morocco pipeline comes onstream, it could be a major supplier of gas to European countries.
The project is seen as a win-win for both continents, providing a much-needed energy source for Europe while also stimulating economic growth in Africa.
