NEC Approves Nomination Of 6 State Governors To Niger Delta Power Holding Company Board

The National Economic Council (NEC) approved six state governors from Borno, Katsina, Imo, Ekiti, Kwara, and Akwa Ibom states to join the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).

During the 142nd NEC meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the council highlighted NDPHC's crucial role in the country's economic development. Several updates and recommendations were presented during the meeting by various ad hoc committees.

One significant report came from the governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who led the ad hoc committee on Flood, Erosion, Drought and Desertification. The report stressed the need to strengthen State Emergency Management Agencies and improve coordination between different levels of government, according to the official website of the State House.

The council also decided that on Monday, the vice president and several ministers would meet to strategize on funding sources for addressing climate challenges faced by the states. The outcomes of this meeting will be presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the council agreed to adopt the committee's recommendations for implementing and funding solutions to these issues.

During the meeting, the council also received updates on Nigeria's finances from the Minister of Finance Wale Edun. The Excess Crude Account was reported at $473,754.57, the Stabilization Account at N28,738,722,369.83, and the Natural Resources fund at N53,891,102,650.71.

Shettima attributed the improvement in Nigeria's economic outlook to President Tinubu's approach to financial prudence and transparency.

"At the helm of the nation's affairs is a leader who always reminds us of the necessity of making the right calls to deliver on our promises to the nation," he said.

"Again, we highlighted Nigeria's improved credit outlook by Fitch Ratings, owing to Mr. President's transparency and effective financial management to further the nation's economic progress."

The vice president went on to describe Tinubu as a source of ideas and a visionary leader, who guided them in finding common ground, adding that the president's political skills and ability make him an important figure in the overall efforts to serve the nation.

"He is the Jagaban, the front-row commander, for a reason," the vice president said.
