Governors Are Key To Nigeria’s Development And Prosperity - President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu highlighted the important role that state governors play in Nigeria's development and prosperity.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, the president said state governors' leadership at the local level is essential for achieving food security, economic growth, and national progress. The president thanked them for their support and teamwork.

He also pointed out key areas where their joint efforts are needed for the country's progress, as per the official statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Tinubu emphasized that state governors are crucial to Nigeria's prosperity and development, as they manage most of the country's revenue. He noted that the agricultural sector depends on them, as they control the land and play a key role in driving progress.

He called for stronger cooperation between the federal and state governments to address important issues, such as local government autonomy, agricultural productivity, and currency stability.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to local government development and autonomy, stressing its importance for progress at the grassroots level. He also addressed rumors about disagreements with governors, noting that there were no issues and that everyone should work together for the country's improvement.

Tinubu stressed the need for greater effort to improve Nigeria's economy and currency situation, stating that the country can prosper, but it requires consistent work from everyone. He also encouraged governors to take pride in their achievements and noted that all states have shown progress.

He praised the improvements in allocations and suggested that while he would handle criticism, the governors should enjoy the benefits, working together to build a nation everyone can be proud of.

Reflecting on his leadership over the past 19 months, the president expressed confidence in Nigeria's future, praising the resilience and leadership of his administration.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and assured the governors that they would continue this journey together, thanking them for their contributions to the country's progress. Tinubu encouraged governors to focus on boosting agricultural growth to help stabilize the economy.

The president announced that he will visit Enugu State on Jan. 4 as part of his planned visits to various states in the country.
