First Lady To Testify Against Student Arrested Over Defamatory Tweet

First Lady Aisha Buhari is scheduled to testify against a university student for posting a defamatory tweet against her five months ago.
Nigerian police, arrested Aminu Adamu, a student of Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa, and whisked him to Abuja five months after his online post.
Adamu, who is a final year student studying Environmental Management, allegedly tweeted a picture of the first lady with a caption in Hausa saying, "Mama has fed fat on poor people's money."
The police said that Adamu's action amounts to defamation and cyberstalking which is an offense against Section 391 of the Penal Code.
Aisha Buhari, the nominal complainant, is one of the five witnesses assembled by the prosecution to establish the case against Adamu.
Festus Josiah, an investigator who tracked and arrested the defendant, is another proposed prosecution witness.
Abdulsalam Zakari, Yahaya Njayo, and Haliru Tahir, all police officers, are also proposed prosecution witnesses against the defendant.
After being in detention for nearly two weeks, Adamu was finally brought before a judge on Tuesday to plead his innocence.
Adamu is currently being held in custody at the Suleja prison near Abuja, and his bail application is still pending. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison according to Nigeria's penal code.
Festus Josiah, a police detective attached to the 'Anti Vice Section A' in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, stated that he was contacted by Aisha Buhari's Aide De Camp (ADC), Usman Shugaba, about the defendant's tweet.
Josiah mentioned that he works with the office of the first lady as a phone "tracker."
He further divulged that his team had traveled to Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on a Monday and trailed Adamu for three days before tracking him down.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to release Adamu Muhammed, who has been detained without communication and allegedly subjected to severe beatings, torture, and other ill-treatment.
