First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu distributed N1.9 billion on Tuesday to elderly people aged 65 and above across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), encouraging them to focus on their health and spend quality time with their loved ones.

During the second edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme (RHEISS) in Abuja, Tinubu said the program was held in all states and the FCT, with 250 beneficiaries in each state and the FCT, as well as military veterans, receiving N200,000 each.

"The Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to increase the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support to our elderly citizens during this festive season," Tinubu said, as per the official statement issued on X by her media aide Busola Kukoyi.

A total of N1.9 billion will be distributed across the country. RHI coordinators in all 36 states, the FCT and Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA) have received N50 million each. From this amount, N200,000 will be given to each beneficiary Tuesday. In addition, free medical check-ups and other items will be provided.

The first lady explained that the program was meant to show the elderly that they were loved and not forgotten, especially during the festive season. She also emphasized President Bola Tinubu's commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians.

She shared her excitement about joining the second edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, with the theme "Total Wellness – Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Lifestyle."

The event is taking place in all 36 states, Federal Capital Territory, and includes veterans from the DEPOWA. This program aims to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually, with 250 elderly people aged 65 and above benefiting from the scheme in each state and the FCT.

Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle announced that in addition to the 250 elderly supported by the RHI, 250 veterans would also receive N200,000 each.

He thanked the first lady for consistently considering the needs of veterans and their widows, noting that the RHI has had a significant impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
