APC’s Keyamo Seeks Peter Obi’s Arrest For Treason

Spokesperson of All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, has filed a petition to the Department of State Services (DSS) against Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed over alleged "inciteful comments."

In the petition filed on Thursday in Abuja, Keyamo, who is also Minister of State Labour and Employment, alleged that Obi and Datti made inciteful comments during their press interviews.

Keyamo noted that Obi needs to begin the healing process, considering that he lost the presidential election against APC's candidate Bola Tinubu, who won the election with 8,794,726 votes while Obi came third as he secured 6,101,533 votes.

"I write this petition with the full realization that in a post-election period such as this, there is a need to soothe frayed nerves, lower the temperature and begin the healing process," Keyamo wrote in the petition.

He continued, "However, it appears the Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed, are not prepared to toe this conciliatory path for the sake of peace and national cohesion, whilst exercising their rights to pursue duly laid-down constitutional means of addressing their grievances."

"In this regard, since the declaration of the Presidential election results, they have been hopping from one media house to the other making incendiary comments and claims about the declaration of the President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission," he added.

Keyamo pointed out that the comments and claims made by Obi are not within the "boundaries of exercising their rights to freedom of speech and the freedom to air their grievances publicly," adding that Obi and his running mate have "crossed the line" as they insisted on the adoption of other processes outside the contemplation of our constitution.

He recalled one of the comments made on Channels Television on Wednesday, where Baba-Ahmed threatened if Tinubu swore on May 29, then would "signal the end of democracy."

The petition came after Obi filed a petition to challenge Tinubu's victory in the presidential elections, which was held on Feb. 25.

Obi's petition has been marked CA/PEPC/03/2023, in which LP and Obi have joined plaintiffs while Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, Kashim and APC are 1st to 4th respondents.

Following the presidential election, Obi said in a press conference that he is all set to fight a legal battle against the ruling party APC over presidential election results.

Moreover, he also hired more than 20 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) for a legal battle, LP's National Secretary Umar Farouk disclosed on March 8.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, who was also running for the presidential election, also announced in a separate interview that he will also drag Tinubu into the court over presidential election results. However, PDP has not filed any petition yet.

Tinubu, on the other hand, is currently in Europe seeking medical care after falling ill.
