Tinubu Praises Former President Buhari For His Visionary Leadership

President Bola Tinubu lauded former President Muhammadu Buhari's integrity and transparency in leadership and thanked him for his visionary leadership of Nigeria and service.

Tinubu adding that Buhari kept his word and never interfered in the government after stepping down from his position on May 29, last year.

Tinubu's comments came while he attended the launch of two books on Buhari. Femi Adesina authored one book titled Working with Buhari: Reflections of a former Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity and the second, penned by Dr. Udu Yakubu, is titled Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy.

"When you left office, you left a lot of pens and files for me for continuity. I inherited the liabilities and assets of my predecessor," the president said, as per the statement shared on the official X handle, formerly known as Twitter.

"You told me it will be difficult to please everyone as a leader. You advised that I should work hard and satisfy my conscience," he added.

Tinubu said Buhari inherited a tottering economy and an overwhelming security situation from former president Goodluck Jonathan, who served the office from 2010 to 2015. Despite all the difficulties, Buhari was able to start the process that would help bring stability in the country.

"I am glad that history has been reintroduced in our schools, and this will be part of our curriculum," the president said, adding that Buhari should continue to be a pillar of the nation's development, even after retirement.

Buhari, who thanked the president for attending the event, highlighted some of the peculiarities of the office including being misinterpreted and misunderstood.

"We kept records of our stewardship. This event is part of accounting for our two terms in office. Government is a continuum. You run and hand over to the next person," the former president said.

General Yakubu Gowon, the chairman of the occasion and former Head of State also praised the former president for working on economy and insecurity issues.

"You handed over to President Tinubu; it was great. It was really great to hand over to President Tinubu, another great leader who will give Nigeria a new direction," Gowon added.

The official X handle of the Nigerian president also shared some more photos of the president and former president sitting together with the books.

Last year in November, Nigeria's National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu blamed Buhari's administration for making the country "bankrupt" and leaving with "no money."
