President Tinubu Urges US To Provide Help To Nigeria ‘Very Quickly’

President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu asked the United States of America for funding help adding that Nigeria needs help "very quickly."

"Nigeria is an oil-producing nation and a developing economy that needs revenue from fossil fuel for growth and development," Tinubu said during a meeting held on Monday with United States Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffrey R. Pyatt, at the State House, Abuja, PeoplesGazette reported.

President Tinubu noted that Nigeria cherishes its partnership with the United States. However, he questioned whether the United States is giving Nigeria enough as much as the country needs.

"The U.S. should not make us hungry to the point we will have to eat the dinner of our enemy," the president said. "We need the funding support to help us drive and accelerate our energy diversification. There are bottlenecks that must be unbottled in terms of how the U.S. bureaucracy responds to our needs."

He added, "Help must be given when it is needed."

President Tinubu went on to share that Nigeria is ready to learn and develop in order to become one of the 21st-century economies. He requested the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources to take this appeal back to the United States and help "very quickly."

"I am honored with your recognition of the baby steps we have taken so far," Tinubu added. "I want to assure you that Nigeria will honor her obligations on climate change and renewables."

Pyatt, who also attended the meeting, said that the United States is "opening a new page in U.S. relations with Nigeria," adding that the States really appreciate Nigeria taking the essential steps in order to grow renewable energy to meet the need of her citizen.

He added, "We are very happy with our work with NNPCL and your team. Your new Special Adviser on Energy is already doing very well."

Aside from asking for help from the United States, President Tinubu removed all service chiefs on Monday and appointed new ones with immediate joining.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, George Akume confirmed the same and said, "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect," ChannelsTV reported.

While it's been only three weeks since Tinubu became President of Nigeria, he has already taken some major decisions. For instance, on the day of the inauguration (May 29), the president announced that the fuel subsidy has been removed.

In fact, he also added 7.5% VAT on diesel, despite acknowledging the fact that subsidy removal had already imposed an extra burden on Nigerians.
