President Tinubu Urge Nigerians To ‘Be Confident’ As ‘New Dawn’ Is Near

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged Nigerians to be patient and confident as Nigeria will "shortly emerge into a new dawn of prosperity, peace, and irreversible progress."

Nigerians have been going through a difficult time, especially after Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy on May 29, which increased fuel and food prices across the country. The announcement came when the country was already going through a shortage of cash due to demonetization.

In the wake of Christmas celebrations, the president addressed all the Nigerians on Sunday, promising that his administration "will continue to implement palliative measures to ease the burden on the most vulnerable, address current hardships and alleviate the suffering" of the citizens.

"Fellow Nigerians, as we navigate this transition to stability, prosperity, and Renewed Hope, I urge you once more to hold fast and rest assured of my commitment to govern with vision, dedication, and empathy," Tinubu wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Be confident that by the strength of our joint endeavor, we will shortly emerge into a new dawn of prosperity, peace, and irreversible progress," he added.

Tinubu further asked all Nigerians to remember and pray for both men and women working in the armed forces to protect the nation, ensuring the safety of every citizen.

The president also remembered those armed Nigerian force officials who lost their lives on duty, noting that they have "paid the highest price" for the country.

Tinubu also mentioned, amidst the festivities, many people will be "tinged with sadness: some mourning the loss of loved ones and others grieving the hopes that failed to materialize and the dreams that fell short."

This month, armed men attacked the Taraba community and kidnapped 16 people, including a traditional ruler, a pregnant woman and two police officers.

Last month, unidentified gunmen opened fire in Imo State, killing two police officers and a civilian. Whereas, in Katsina State armed bandits killed five people and kidnapped another five people.

Hinting at the fuel subsidy removal that created a negative impact on Nigerians, the president noted that this year has been a time of "transformation and relentless change."

Tinubu added that he is aware of the "unique sacrifices" Nigerians are making but assured them that these necessary reforms will help the country to achieve "prosperous" and "peaceful nation" in the long run.

"Let the light of Christmas guide our paths as we bring this year to a close and usher in the new year. I wish you all a merry Christmas," the president added.
