President Tinubu Receives Support From APC’s 107 Ex-Senators

President Bola Tinubu's case of alleged certificate forgery has been slammed by the 107 ex-senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who believe the Nigerian leader will emerge victorious.

The former senators of the APC, who are convinced the opposition is behind the accusation, even said the allegations thrown at leaders like this one are nothing new, considering that former U.S. President Barack Obama and current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have experienced the same thing.

Basheer Lado, who served as a former Kano senator and is now a convener and protem chairman of the 107 ex-senators, said on Sunday that allegations against Tinubu are fuelled by the opposition party and that the matter is still in the court.

He further noted that the party trusts in "the judicial process to address these claims fairly and impartially," Punch reported.

According to the opposition party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged Tinubu's victory earlier this year after losing the election. He claimed that Tinubu submitted false documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"We are aware of the current unfounded allegations surrounding President Tinubu's credentials, which have sparked public discourse and, in some cases, public outrage," Lado said.

Lado added that it's not "uncommon for world leaders or prominent figures to face challenges and allegations during their careers," sharing that history has already seen many such allegations thrown at leaders and that after a thorough examination, these personalities have often been proven innocent and served their countries with honor.

"We draw inspiration from leaders around the world who faced adversity but emerge with their integrity intact," he said further, citing some examples of leaders who faced similar trials.

"The former U.S. President Barack Obama, during his tenure faced unfounded allegations questioning his place of birth and citizenship, notably referred to as the 'birther' controversy. We draw important lessons from President Obama's response to this challenge," he recalled, before adding that despite the allegation, Obama was dedicated to governing the United States.

He also talked about Modi, noting that he also faced allegations related to his educational qualifications. However, the Indian prime minister remained focused on his governance and commitment to India's development.

"These examples from around the world illustrate that challenges and allegations are not uncommon in the lives of leaders, particularly during moments of responsibility. They also demonstrate the power of truth, the strength of character and the resilience of leadership. We believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do the same," Lado explained.

He further urged Nigerian citizens to stop making hasty judgments and spreading negative comments about Tinubu on social media, as he is committed to improving Nigeria.
