President Tinubu Assures APC’s Women Leaders Of Security In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu assured security to Nigerian women alongside a better healthcare system and industrialization.

The president, who welcomed All Progressives Congress Women Leaders from 36 States and Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Thursday, said that the administration is already working towards implementing several policies that would create a positive impact on Nigerians including the Students' Loan Scheme.

Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake read a statement, titled "Enough is enough, we are taking our country back, Tinubu assures Nigerian women" during the event, signed by the president.

"We have established a scholarship scheme that would guarantee their four years of tertiary education," he said, Punch reported. "Security is paramount in my administration's agenda because women bear the cost of insecurity anywhere in the world."

He added, "Issues of insecurity are being discussed at the highest level and this administration will ensure that insecurity is halted immediately. Medicare is another. We will ensure that health facilities are revamped and we will pursue this with vigour."

The president stated that industrialization is another priority of the administration as citizens will gain employment. Tinubu praised the women leaders for paying the visit and appreciated their support amid election campaigns, noting that they deserve awards for all their efforts.

"We will continue to strive for a better Nigeria. You will not regret your confidence in this administration," the president noted, urging women leaders to create awareness about the policies and programmes while ensuring citizens that the current difficulties are not permanent.

"You understand better, you are better coordinators, and you know how to multitask," the president said. "The gains of the subsidy removal will be channeled to better the lives of Nigerians from the few that have been fleecing the nation."

The president announced subsidy removal during his inauguration, held on May 29, and this led to a rise in petrol prices from N195 per litre to N600 per litre. Due to this, transport companies like Uber increased their fares to ensure that drivers can cover their fuel costs and deal with inflation.

Aside from subsidy removal, the Tinubu-led government confirmed that a 7.5% VAT (Value Added Tax) on diesel has been implemented.

Moreover, the Point-of-Sale operators have also started meeting stakeholders in the country and agreed on increasing transaction charges across Lagos, Ogun, and Edo states. However, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) noted that it will resolve issues of hiked charges, set by Point-of-Sale operators.

CBN has issued emergency helpline numbers for Nigerians to report PoS agents, who are charging them more than N200 for withdrawal amount up to N10,000.
