‘No Single Nation Can Walk The Road To Sustainability Alone’ – President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu highlighted the importance of global cooperation to address climate change and promote sustainable development, noting that "No single nation can walk the road to sustainability alone."

Speaking at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Wednesday under the theme "From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future," Tinubu highlighted Nigeria's commitment to creating a sustainable, fair, and resilient future.

Tinubu emphasized the need for working together, sharing knowledge, and offering mutual support to tackle the challenges of today's connected world. He also described the fight against climate change not just as an environmental responsibility, but as a global economic chance to reshape Africa's future and the wider energy sector.

"As leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of our planet, we stand at a critical juncture in human history. To succeed, we must innovate, collaborate, and act decisively as one global community," the president said, as per the official statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Tinubu outlined Nigeria's sustainability strategy, which focuses on three areas: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development. He mentioned that his government is implementing practical programs that meet global standards while considering Nigeria's specific economic and political needs.

The president highlighted initiatives such as the National Clean Cooking Policy, which supports clean energy and promotes socio-economic growth. He also pointed out the use of climate-smart agricultural practices to improve food security while reducing environmental harm.

Local communities are important in tackling environmental issues like deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, flooding, and pollution, which threaten many livelihoods. Tinubu called for global cooperation to mobilize resources, encourage innovation, and use technology to address these challenges.

To promote a Green Economy across Africa, the president noted the need to incorporate sustainable practices into all sectors.

He acknowledged that reaching these goals requires considerable investments and urged partner countries, international organizations, development agencies, and private investors to join Nigeria in creating a sustainable, prosperous, and fair future.

Nigeria is moving toward cleaner energy, diversifying its energy sources, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. This includes building infrastructure for the widespread use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, as well as using solid minerals to support the transition to green energy.
