Nigeria Launches Mobile App To Track Performance Of Ministries, Agencies

The Nigerian government introduced a new mobile app called the "Citizens' Delivery Tracker," allowing citizens to monitor the work and achievements of ministries and administration agencies.
This application will enable users to see how well these organizations are meeting their goals and targets. The launch event for the app took place at the Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, on Monday.
The "Citizens' Delivery Tracker" was unveiled by Hadiza Usman, who heads the Central Coordination Delivery Unit (CDCU) within the President's Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination office.
Usman explained that the new app was an updated version of the previous Delivery Tracker, which was launched to create a better system for communication between the government and the citizens.
"In arriving at the deliverables and key performance indicators, the CDCU, supported by development partners and consultants, held numerous bilateral meetings with all the Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and their respective technical teams over six weeks," she said, Premium Times reported.
"The bilateral sessions looked at the mandate of the respective ministries in line with the Presidential Priority Areas and arrived at the final deliverable and KPIs."
Usman emphasized various priority areas, including reforming the economy to deliver sustained inclusive growth, strengthening national security for peace and prosperity, boosting agriculture to achieve food security and unlocking energy and natural resources for sustainable development.
Other crucial focus areas mentioned were improving infrastructure and transportation systems to facilitate growth, prioritizing education, health, and social investment as fundamental pillars of development while accelerating diversification through industrialization, digitization, creative arts, manufacturing and innovation.
Usman also stressed on the significance of improving governance to ensure efficient service delivery.
"We are working to ensure that people cannot decline, dodge, or dispute our data. So, we are looking to have data from the NBS and work in collaboration with MDAs to ensure accuracy," she said. "Part of citizen engagement is for citizens to point out our errors, allowing us to query our own data whether credible or not."
She explained that the government was working to enhance the credibility of the National Bureau of Statistics, which would only recognize data officially approved by the government.
It's essential for the government to prioritize investment in data and acknowledge the importance of maintaining data integrity, as per Usman.
