Jigawa Crash: At Least 11 People Dies In Road Accident

At least eleven people died in a road accident on Saturday around noon after two vehicles had a collision in the Jigawa State.

Lawal Shiisu, the police public relations officer Jigawa Police Command, a Honda saloon with registration number NSR 469 AE and a Golf wagon with registration number AUY 292 XA crashed into each other at Kwanar Gujungu town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa.

Honda saloon, driven by a man named Abdullahi Muhammad, had five passengers while the Golf wagon, driven by a man named Safiyanu Mamu, had four passengers. Including drivers, a total of 11 people died in the crash.

"On Saturday, at about 1200hrs, the command recorded a fatal motor vehicle accident which claimed eleven lives at Kwanar Gujungu town, when two vehicles had a head-on collision, as a result of which all the eleven people in both vehicles answered the supreme call on the spot," Shiisu said as per Premium Times.

Following the accident, a team of personnel from Taura Divisional Police Headquarters went to the scene and admitted the victims to the hospital nearby. However, the doctor confirmed they were all dead.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, CP Ahmadu Abdullahi, on behalf of the officers and men of the command, expressed his heartfelt condolence to the immediate deceased's families, relatives and well-wishers in this trying moment.

Road accidents are common in Nigeria due to several reasons including rash driving, poor road conditions, poorly maintained vehicles and inadequate traffic laws.

Last month, at least 16 people died in an accident on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway after an overloaded DAF truck lost control and fell into a ditch. The vehicle was reportedly coming at a high speed.

Another incident took place in Niger state, where at least 17 people died and 229 people were injured after a truck overloaded with food and people crashed.

In October, a tanker loaded with 33,000 liters of diesel crashed in the Sari Iganmu area in Lagos, causing a large fuel spill on the road, which completely stalled traffic in the area for some time.
